Psych is a comedy-drama detective television show created by Steve Franks that airs on USA Network. Psych reruns also air on ION Television in syndication.
The series follows detective duo Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill) as they solve a variety of criminal cases. Each episode of the program begins with a flashback from Shawn’s childhood and determines the theme for the episode and the particular case they will be solving. Shawn Spencer’s acute observational skills are extremely important to the show, as they allow him to convince people that he has psychic powers. Shawn claims that his psychic abilities are the reason why he is such a talented detective. Shawn Spencer must keep up the act that he is in fact a psychic in order to avoid being prosecuted by the police. This is where the name of the show comes from.
Psych was USA Network’s longest-running original series, debuting in 2006 and coming to a close recently after the completion of its eighth season in March of 2014. Psych was the winner of the Independent Investigations Group Annual Award for Excellence in Entertainment for advancing the cause of science and exposing superstition, and has also been nominated for various other awards. Psych is praised by critics and fans for being remaining creative, witty, and fresh throughout its long run.
